I lost track of how many students complimented me on my tie today. I doubt a male teacher would get the same reaction in a blouse or dress, but I'll save that discussion of gender roles for another day...
February 2015 entries
How adorable is it that Ellie made a "Lost" poster for her stuffed Simba? Aidan was the hero of the day; he found it under Liam's bed.
Is anyone else out there really sick of winter? I know it sounds cliche, but it's usually around this time of year that I start wondering if I should invest in one of those SAD treatment lights.
The treadmill remains a fantastic investment. I ran 5 miles today, as the snow came down on my cancelled musical rehearsal. As we were essentially trapped in the house today, I couldn't help but wonder if we could feasibly pick up and move to another climate. I mean, they must teach English in Hawaii, or even in South Carolina, right?
I looked into our summer beach options instead. I suppose, for now, that will have to suffice.
I spent the day at my school, and Mike spent the day at his school, both working in our respective musicals. We Ogres in Far Far Away had a blast!
We made the last suitcase for our three little pigs, made several props, worked with stage make up (ok, Aidan got a little off track), and even managed to rehearsal for a few hours! Phew. I'm exhausted.
No names being mentioned here, but just want to share a teaching opportunity I had tonight. A few students were venting about school online, and I privately messaged them and advised them against venting in such a public forum. They responded in a very mature way, apologized, and took down the post thread. We had an awesome conversation about proper use of social media, AND none of it would have happened if I weren't "friends" with students on Facebook.
It's a controversial topic, and I agree that teachers need to be very cautious in this day and age. But, we can also help kids navigate the waters of 21st century technology, communication, and professional behavior.
That some people actually sleep alone in their beds at night. Seriously...not sure why we have a 3-bedroom house.
