My Mini Props Master

Gabrielle has been having the time of her life backstage at the high school. My students love her like a little sister, and they include her in every project. Today, it was mask-making for one of the characters whose hobby is masks. She was so proud of her work. 💜

Forget Carving!

Every year, we carve pumpkins. It's a mess. The kids are too little to do it on their own, and Mike and I end up dicing up 5 pumpkins on our own. It's annoying, honestly.

This year, I suggested we paint pumpkins instead. What a great idea, if I do say so myself. Each child could do their own thing --safely-- and we all had fun. I loved making my Frankensquash. 🎃😀

Hello, NYC!

Today, Mike and I took 8 students to New York to see the play that I am staging this fall. The combination of absolutely gorgeous weather, well-behaved kids, and a fantastic performance made for the perfect day.

The play, "You Can't Take It With You," is a classic comedy that is enjoying a healthy revival. It was surreal to be in the same room with James Earl Jones. He captured the essence of Grandpa Vanderhof with ease and joy. The other actors were talented and engaging. We met several of them after the show, and they graciously endured our effusive praise and selfie-taking. I will cherish my scribbles script!

Tomorrow, we are "off book," or running our show without scripts. I'm inspired and ready to tackle the last leg of our show's show.

My Breakfast Date

I took a sick day to be with Liam today, because we are having some issues with stabilizing his child care. We went out to breakfast, which we haven't been able to do in a really long time. Not only did we share apple streusel French toast and eggs and turkey bacon, but we also played a few tense rounds of checkers. I may have lost twice.
